THE SOUTH EAST ZONE TEAMS SHOOT

The day has started well, the sun is shining (well in the afternoon anyway) there are cars full of shooters as far as the eye can see. The day’s events were 25 tgt Double barrel & 25 tgt Handicap (If you NQ the hole day is handicapped) The handicap was shot first and thanks to the Southeast zone for approving the all day use of the practice trap. No it did not run as well as the three main grounds, Yes the roamers are true, there’s a new trap on the way, so next time you skip putting in a dollar for practice that trap will be further away. (We’d like to thank Leon Howe for his kind donations at ground four.)

Easter weekend shoot 2006
Sunday morning, the day after our shoot. As tradition dictates, the Easter bunny arrives at our house in the wee hours of the morning and hides Easter eggs in the garden for the kiddies to search for when they wake up. As parents we know the Easter bunny doesn’t exist(well some anyway). The night before, just after we’ve tucked the kiddies into bed, we get the carrots from the fridge and nor on them leaving deposits on the ground as evidence showing the kiddies the Easter bunny has been at our house. The Easter bunny that comes to our place is particularly lucky, he like me is partial to a Bundy or two and we leave a bottle out side only to discover the damn things empty in the morning!

Sunday morning, 6.00am, leader of opposition wakes kids “LOOK Georgia”, nearly 16, “The Easter bunny’s been!”   “Mum! Have you been spitting carrots in the back garden again? I bet dads still in bed with a hang over and an empty bottle of Bundys on the out door table!”. Not deterred, cook goes to Matt’s room “Matt, The Easter bunny’s been!”  “Mother, I'm 18, unlike you I don’t believe in the Easter bunny, let alone the fairies which you believe inhabit our garden!”.

The day before, shoot day, Nepean.

Driving to the club I thought being Easter and all, it would be nice to stop and buy Easter eggs for the shooters that turn up at our club today. Whilst driving to Safeway a visual did enter my mind, imagine receiving a thank you kiss from the likes of Pete, Dick, Chris, Hecta, Brian and others. At this point I stopped the car, walked up to the closest brick wall, pounded my head against it repeatedly and muttered the words “YOU IDIOT”

The shoot. Being Easter, not many were expected, 20 in all showed with the weather being rather blustery and showery. Of the 20 shooters that showed 7 were from out of town, When I say out of town I mean out of town, 5 from Queensland infact. They arrived at the gun club and headed straight for the canteen, they would have headed straight for the open fire except they saw who was gathered around it. I walked up to our new guests and introduced myself and dragged them to the fire and introduced them to our locals, big mistake! Their minds now corrupted by us southerners they shot below what their card read!

Today’s event was a 100 target medley 25 db, 25 pts, 25 cont and 25 ball trap.

AA saw Chris Carrol victorious over Keith Caldecott (remember him, he used to shoot DTL, who won the dollars on the day Keithie?), third was Brian Barlow, yes Hecta was there, not up to his usual standard though.
A was won by Dead eye Dick, me second and Peter Brant from Rockhampton gun club third.
B grade was a Nepean sweep with Frank Ibbott first, Robbie Jones second and Andrew Holloway third.
C grade was once again hotly contested, Russell Clay (Frankston) fought off a hotly contested battle with Russell Clay who also fought off Russell Clay to come first.    The scores, 142/150, 140/150, 132/150, 137/150, 136/150, 129/150, 126/150, 123/150, 120/150 and 122/150  You work em out!

Time being on our side we held a novelty event. 16 target cont. step back finishing on 26
Seeing I didn’t end up in the money I'm not going to write about it!

See you at the next shoot  N.B.

Nepean shoot, Duck opening weekend, 18/3/06.

Being duck opening weekend, only 18 shooters turned out for Nepeans 100 target medley. Not to worry.        The event 25DB, 25SB, 25CONT,, 25POINTS.
Results were as follows –

AA 1st Stewie Chrystie  147/150  “haven’t shot much at all lately”
2nd Hecta  144/150  (Lets not talk about the sighter target shall we)
3rd Robbie Williams  143/150  “I can do what Hecta can do as well, miss me sighter target”
   A 1st Neil Bakker 141/150 (flogged em!)
2nd Mark James  138/150  (keep practicing Mark)
3rd L Mirrabella  “left me dog at home today, does anyone want some ploughing done?)
B 1st Frank Ibbott  129/152  (Fine Nepean shooter)
2nd Dead eye Dick Hammond  124/150 (not so dead eyed on this occasion)
3rd Geoff Noyes 100/150 (Quiet achiever)
C and a well contested fight for first, D Clark 110/150
2nd and 3rd hmmm, no shooters, but well shot anyway Mr Clark.

The weather was a little overcast with little wind.

After the main event was held we had a novelty 15 target step back continental where 10 shooters lined up to test their abilities. Two were left standing at the end where its as you all know, customary to have a shoot off, but no, Robbie used the excuse of “packed me gun away” to get out of the shoot off, would of flogged you anyway Robbie!, so we split the prize.

The shoot over, guns packed away the bar was declared open. Presentations were held by the rather tall, and might I say, rather hansom president.

Good to see Dick back at Nepean, “Its amazing how well the shoot runs when Quickies not around” in fine form as usual and might I say rather observant (the gallery surrounding Dick all nodding in unison!).  Don’t sue me Norm, I'm just the messenger!

Just a timely reminder, our Nepean night simulated starts Friday night, 7.00pm 21st April, see enclosed flyer for details.

 See you round the traps……NB.
